The Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit is looking for an attorney experienced in human resources/employment law to serve as the human resources attorney for the court. The person in this position will be called upon to perform the highest level of human resource duties for the court.

In its Human Resources Attorney, the court is looking for:
• A person who wants to play a key role in developing and drafting the human resource policies and practices for the First Circuit;

• A person who has the ability to engage and interact with the judges and court supervisors to implement and manage the human resources operations and programs of the court;

• A person with the legal skills and commitment required to remain updated on state and federal employment laws and regulations such as FMLA, ADA, FLSA, etc., and keep the court up to date via reports, memoranda, and presentations;

• A person with skills necessary for an important role in drafting and creating personnel policies and procedures for the court;

• A person who possesses the discretion, demeanor, and communication skills required to field employee complaints, conduct workplace investigations, and provide, when necessary, legally sound feedback to the judges on the issues raised;

• A person who has the interpersonal skills and disposition to provide meaningful assistance to employees regarding benefits, payroll, or court HR policies.

Successful candidates must possess:

• A juris doctorate degree and are required to be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association, experience practicing employment/human resources related law with a background or additional education in employment law preferred;

• 5 years of hands-on experience handling employment issues, conducting legal research, drafting employment policies and procedures;

• The ability to organize and initiate approved court-wide human resource programs and training.

The starting salary range is $56,534-$77,296. In addition, the First Circuit offers many benefits with this position including state holidays, a variety of health insurance options, dental insurance, vision insurance, monthly accrual of annual leave and sick leave, and retirement contributions into the Clerks of Court Retirement System.
